\u201cIn Ankara, Secretary Blinken will also discuss ongoing bilateral cooperation on shared priorities from counterterrorism to regional stability while meeting with senior government officials of Turkey, a valued NATO ally,\u201d according to the State Department.<\/p>\n
A US official said Blinken immediately went into talks with President Erdogan \u201cin the VIP lounge\u201d at Ankara\u2019s Esenboga airport.<\/p>\n
The meeting comes as the Kurdish US-backed SDF forces have continued to clash with the Turkish-backed SNA forces in Syria. Blinken earlier called US support for the SDF \u201ccritical\u201d.<\/p>\n
White House National Security Adviser Sullivan was asked earlier Thursday if there would be any \u201cred lines\u201d in those clashes. He declined to outline any parameters, but said the US is \u201cvery deeply\u201d involved in conversations with both Turkey and the SDF.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe conversations are serious. They\u2019re intense, they\u2019re ongoing,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
