TEHRAN \u2013 Iran\u2019s top security official said on Monday that contrary to what is claimed by foreign media outlets there has been no change in Iran\u2019s nuclear doctrine.<\/p>\n
Ali Akbar Ahmadian, secretary of Iran\u2019s Supreme National Security Council, made the remarks in a meeting with Omani Foreign Minister Said Badr al-Busaidi who visited Tehran on Monday<\/p>\n
\u201c\u2026 based on the views of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution there has been no change in the nuclear doctrine of the Islamic Republic of Iran,\u201d Ahmadian asserted.<\/p>\n
In response to a clarification by the Omani foreign minister about Iran\u2019s nuclear activities as well as \u201cremarks and rumors\u201d that Iran has increased its stockpile of uranium or is enriching uranium to a higher level, Ahmadian said these are \u201cbaseless\u201d. \u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Islamic Republic of Iran is still committed to the framework of the Muscat agreements and the ball is on the other side\u2019s court to honor its commitments\u201d based on the 2015 nuclear agreement, Ahmadian explained.<\/p>\n
Under the 2015 nuclear agreement, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), Iran agreed to put limits on its nuclear activities in exchange for termination of economic and financial sanctions.<\/p>\n
The agreement was signed in 2015 between Iran and the 5+1 group, the five permanent members of the UN Security Council and Germany. However, the U.S. quit the agreement in 2018 and the remaining parties, including Britain, France and Germany (European trio), failed to observe their commitments.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
