TEHRAN-The play \u201cThe Lonesome West\u201d written by British-Irish playwright Martin McDonagh will be staged at the theater hall of Sahne Abi Cultural and Artistic Center in Tehran.<\/p>\n
Hojjat Khorasani is the director of the play that has Mehran Behzadnia, Ali Arab, Amir-Mohammad Khosropur, and Zeinab Nassibi in the cast, Mehr reported.<\/p>\n
The 65-minute play is a part of McDonagh\u2019s Connemara trilogy, which includes \u201cThe Beauty Queen of Leenane\u201d and \u201cA Skull in Connemara\u201d. All three plays depict the murderous occurrences in the western Irish town of Leenane.<\/p>\n
In the play, Valene and Coleman, two brothers living alone in their father\u2019s house after his recent death, find it impossible to exist without the most massive and violent disputes over the most mundane and innocent of topics. Only Father Welsh, the local young priest, is prepared to try to reconcile the two before their petty squabbling spiral into vicious and bloody carnage.<\/p>\n
Martin McDonagh, 54, is a British-Irish playwright and filmmaker. He is known for his absurdist dark humor which often challenges the modern theater aesthetic. He has won numerous accolades including an Academy Award, six BAFTA Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, and three Olivier Awards in addition to nominations for five Tony Awards.<\/p>\n
His plays, many of which have been produced on the West End and on Broadway, include \u201cThe Beauty Queen of Leenane,\u201d \u201cThe Cripple of Inishmaan\u201d (both 1996), \u201cThe Lieutenant of Inishmore\u201d (2001), \u201cThe Pillowman\u201d (2003), \u201cA Behanding in Spokane\u201d (2010), and \u201cHangmen\u201d (2015).<\/p>\n
McDonagh won the Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film for \u201cSix Shooter\u201d and has received nominations for six other Academy Awards for his work on \u201cIn Bruges\u201d (2007), \u201cThree Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri\u201d (2017), and \u201cThe Banshees of Inisherin\u201d (2022).\u00a0<\/p>\n
He is the most controversial Irish dramatist working today, with his explorations of Irish national identity which look at the darker side of provincial life. His bleak but blackly comic portrayal of modern, rural Ireland courts debate with its dark farce, caricatures of violence and barbarism, and an exaggerated, poeticized dialect of Hiberno-English.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Lonesome West\u201d will remain on stage until February 19 at Sahne Abi Center located at No. 1595, Valiasr St., after Taleqani junction.<\/p>\n
