TEHRAN – US President Donald Trump\u2019s insistence on his proposal to take control of the Gaza Strip has made it crystal clear that he is developing Israel\u2019s nefarious schemes for the Palestinian territory.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The US president said on Sunday that he is \u201ccommitted to buying and owning Gaza.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Trump, who was a real estate developer before entering politics,\u00a0said he views the Palestinian enclave as a \u201cbig real estate site.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI think that it\u2019s a big mistake to allow people \u2014 the Palestinians, or the people living in Gaza \u2014 to go back yet another time, and we don\u2019t want Hamas going back. And think of it as a big real estate site, and the United States is going to own it and we\u2019ll slowly \u2014 very slowly, we\u2019re in no rush \u2014 develop it. We\u2019re going to bring stability to the Middle East soon,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Hamas has denounced Trump\u2019s proposal to \u201cbuy and own\u201d Gaza, saying Palestinians will foil all displacement and deportation plans<\/strong><\/cite>\u00a0The Palestinian Hamas resistance movement came down hard on the\u00a0businessman-turned-politician.<\/p>\n \u201cGaza is not a property that can be bought and sold, and it is an integral part of our occupied Palestinian land\u2026 Dealing with the Palestinian issue with the mentality of a real estate dealer is a recipe for failure,\u201d Izzat al-Risheq, a senior Hamas member, said.\u00a0<\/p>\n He added, \u201cOur Palestinian people will thwart all displacement and deportation plans. Gaza belongs to its people.\u201d \u201cThe US will take over the Gaza Strip and we will do a job with it too,\u201d Trump said during a joint press conference alongside visiting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the White House on February 4.\u00a0<\/p>\n Trump had originally suggested the option of sending American troops to Gaza to implement his plan; however, he later stated that such action is unnecessary.<\/p>\n He has stressed that Palestinians in Gaza should leave the territory exerting pressure on regional countries, in particular Jordan and Egypt to house them.\u00a0<\/p>\n Trump\u2019s idea has promoted backlash not only from regional countries but also from Washington\u2019s Western allies.\u00a0<\/p>\n Netanyahu, however, has heaped praise on Trump, describing his idea as \u201crevolutionary\u201d and \u201ccreative\u201d.<\/p>\n Since Israel launched war on Gaza on October 7, 2023, it has made futile attempts to forcibly transfer Palestinians from Gaza to pave the way for settlers to move in. Palestinians have foiled Israel\u2019s plot by putting up stiff resistance. The resilience of Palestinians also pushed Israel to agree to a ceasefire after more than 15 months of war which left nearly 62,000 people dead in Gaza.\u00a0<\/p>\n Trump has claimed that he wants to turn Gaza into \u201cthe Riviera of the Middle East\u201d.<\/p>\n Nonetheless, UN spokesman St\u00e9phane Dujarric has rejected his proposal saying \u201cany forced displacement of people is tantamount to ethnic cleansing.\u201d<\/p>\n Israel failed to eliminate Hamas and bring Palestinians to their knees after destroying much of Gaza. For now, Trump\u2019s ethnic cleaning plan for the territory amounts to embarking on a\u00a0lost\u00a0cause.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
