President Donald Trump has criticized Volodymyr Zelenskyy, saying he was \u201cdisappointed\u201d that the Ukrainian leader complained about being left out of\u00a0talks between the US and Russia\u00a0over ending the Ukraine war.<\/p>\n
Trump also\u00a0seemed to blame Kyiv\u00a0for Moscow\u2019s invasion \u2013 even as he said he was more confident of a deal to end the war after US-Russia talks \u2013 claiming Ukraine could have \u201cmade a deal\u201d to avert war, the Guardian reported.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m very disappointed, I hear that they\u2019re upset about not having a seat [at the talks],\u201d Trump told reporters at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida when asked about the Ukrainian reaction. The US president said a \u201chalf-baked\u201d negotiator could have secured a settlement years ago \u201cwithout the loss of much land\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cToday I heard, \u2018oh, well, we weren\u2019t invited.\u2019 Well, you\u2019ve been there for three years … You should have never started it. You could have made a deal,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Speaking in Florida on Tuesday night, Trump increased pressure on Zelenskyy to hold elections \u2013 echoing one of Moscow\u2019s key demands.<\/p>\n
The US president also suggested that he could meet Russian President Vladimir Putin before the end of the month as Washington overhauls its stance towards\u00a0Russia\u00a0in a shift that has alarmed European leaders.<\/p>\n
Zelenskyy had earlier on Tuesday criticized the US-Russia talks for excluding Kyiv, saying efforts to end the war\u00a0must be \u201cfair\u201d\u00a0and involve European countries, while postponing his own trip to Saudi Arabia, where the US-Russia talks took place.<\/p>\n

The Ukrainian president\u2019s comments appeared to anger Trump, who proceeded to launch a series of attacks on Zelenskyy, who has led Kyiv\u2019s fight against Russia\u2019s February 2022 invasion.
