More than 500 film, TV, and media workers have condemned censorship and racism after the BBC pulled a documentary about children\u2019s lives in Gaza.<\/p>\n
The media professionals, including 12 BBC staffers, sent a letter to the broadcaster\u2019s leadership on Wednesday, in which they condemned a \u201cracist\u201d and \u201cdehumanizing\u201d campaign targeting the film Gaza: How to Survive a War Zone.<\/p>\n
The BBC removed the documentary from its iPlayer streaming service after pressure from supporters of Israel. In a note to viewers, it said that there have been \u201cquestions\u201d raised about the film and that it is \u201cconducting further due diligence with the production company\u201d.<\/p>\n
The media workers wrote: \u201cBeneath this political football are children who are in the most dire circumstances of their young lives. This is what must remain at the heart of this discussion.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs program-makers, we are extremely alarmed by the intervention of partisan political actors on this issue, and what this means for the future of broadcasting in this country.\u201d<\/p>\n
The film, they added, offers an \u201call-too-rare perspective on the lived experiences of Palestinian children\u201d and \u201cdeserves recognition\u201d rather than censorship.<\/p>\n
The BBC\u2019s board is set to discuss the documentary on Thursday.<\/p>\n
Last year, more than 100\u00a0 BBC staff members\u00a0accused\u00a0the broadcaster of giving Israel favorable coverage in its reporting of the war on Gaza\u00a0and criticized for its lack of \u201caccurate evidence-based journalism\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
