TEHRAN- Israel is digging in for the long haul with its all-out military aggression targeting several countries, as it faces more isolation in the region, an expert in the Middle East said.<\/p>\n
In an interview with Al Jazeera, Mohamad Elmasry from the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies said Israel\u2019s latest budget, which amounts to $271 billion \u2013 the largest in its history \u2013 reflects its intention to fight many wars on different fronts.<\/p>\n
\u201cHistorically, of course, the U.S. provides Israel with a very large sum of military funding every year, amounting to $3.8 billion. That number actually goes up during wartime,\u201d Elmasry said.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut I think that there may be a recognition inside Israel that things may start to change. The American political landscape is changing. More and more Americans are not only critical of Israel, but also critical of American support for Israel.\u201d<\/p>\n
The latest budget, he said, signals \u201cthat Israel does not view itself as being at the end of a war, or wars, if it were. But maybe in the middle or close to the beginning.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think they recognize that there\u2019s going to be a very long-term war, or several sets of wars\u201d from Syria, Lebanon to the Palestinian territories, as well as Iran, for Israel to make its vision of a Greater Israel happen, Elmasry added.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
