During a meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in India on Saturday, Pezeshkian maintained that \u201cthe arson in the region is due to the hegemonic approach of America and Europe and the crimes committed by Israel,\u201d adding that they do not want independent countries to exist in the region, accoridng to Press TV.<\/p>\n
Pezeshkian underlined the importance of stronger ties with neighboring and Muslim countries, saying Tehran would continue expanding such relations in a logical and solid manner.<\/p>\n
Recalling the recent US-Israeli war of aggression against Iran, he said, \u201cThey attacked our country without any reason; they martyred our Leader, children, commanders and scientists.\u201d<\/p>\n
He also pointed to attacks launched from neighboring countries, noting that Iran had \u201cno choice but to defend the country\u201d and strike military bases used in the attacks.<\/p>\n
Pezeshkian reaffirmed Tehran\u2019s commitment to peace, declaring, \u201cWe are not seeking war or the continuation of war.\u201d<\/p>\n
He also rejected any foreign role in regional security, saying, \u201cWe do not need a gendarme in the region,\u201d and that the territorial integrity and security of the region can only be ensured by its own countries.<\/p>\n
Anwar, for his part, strongly condemned the US and Israeli attacks on Iran and reaffirmed Malaysia\u2019s support for Tehran\u2019s sovereignty.<\/p>\n
\u201cMalaysia firmly made its position clear from the first day, and our parliament strongly condemned the aggression against Iran,\u201d the Malaysian premier noted.<\/p>\n
\u201cIran\u2019s territorial integrity and sovereignty are highly respected by us,\u201d Anwar added, reaffirming Kuala Lumpur\u2019s position on Iran.<\/p>\n
Praising the Iranian people\u2019s resistance, the Malaysian leader remarked, \u201cThe resistance of the Iranian government and people is commendable,\u201d adding that many other countries might have been defeated within days but Iran had continued to stand firm.<\/p>\n
Anwar also welcomed closer bilateral relations, saying, \u201cWe believe in strengthening our relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran,\u201d particularly in trade, economic and educational fields.<\/p>\n
