Russia’s Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, addressed the UN General Assembly on Saturday and accused Western countries of destabilising the world through \u201cforce and double standards\u201d, vowing that Moscow’s \u201cspecial military operation\u201d in Ukraine would be \u201ccarried through to the end,\u201d the UN website reported.<\/p>\n
Quoting President Vladimir Putin, Mr. Lavrov said \u201cthe dictatorship of a single hegemon has run amok and is simply dangerous for everyone around it,\u201d arguing that a fairer, multipolar order was emerging as countries of the Global South and East asserted themselves as \u201csovereign centres of development.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mr. Lavrov condemned the United States’ seizure of Venezuelan President Nicol\u00e1s Maduro and his wife earlier this year, and their \u201cextrajudicial detention\u201d in the US, calling for their immediate release.<\/p>\n
In a sharp rebuke of the war on Iran, Lavrov characterized the targeting of Iran\u2019s leadership as a profound violation of established diplomatic norms and a dangerous precedent that threatens global stability.<\/p>\n
He also denounced the killing of Iran’s Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, along with members of his family and military and political leadership, as \u201canother unacceptable manifestation of coercive diktat.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
He said the wider US-Israeli campaign had also struck Iranian nuclear facilities under the IAEA safeguards, causing \u201cirreparable damage\u201d to the non-proliferation system overseen by the UN-backed nuclear energy watchdog.<\/p>\n
