TEHRAN \u2013 Kamal Kharrazi, Iran\u2019s former Foreign Minister and head of Iran\u2019s Strategic Council on Foreign Relations, has clarified that while Iran\u2019s policy against nuclear weapons remains intact, any existential threat to Iran could alter this stance.<\/p>\n
The advisor to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution made the remarks in an interview with Lebanon\u2019s Al Mayadeen, where he offered insights into Iran\u2019s nuclear policy and regional security stance.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Kharrazi began by emphasizing that while Iran currently refrains from developing nuclear weapons due to a religious decree, this position might not hold if Iran faces an existential threat. \u201cIran has respected the Leader\u2019s fatwa prohibiting nuclear weapons,\u201d Kharrazi stated, \u201cbut if the survival of Iran comes under serious threat, we reserve the right to reconsider.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Kharrazi also criticized European countries for not reciprocating Iran\u2019s respect for their concerns, particularly over missile ranges and regional security sensitivities.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cIran no longer feels obliged to consider European concerns,\u201d he said, hinting at Iran\u2019s growing willingness to increase missile ranges if its own concerns continue to be ignored.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cIran\u2019s missile capabilities are evident,\u201d Kharrazi continued, \u201cand if Europe continues to overlook our red lines, we see no need to be bound by their sensitivities.\u201d<\/p>\n
In discussing recent Israeli actions, Kharrazi addressed Israel\u2019s continued miscalculations. He referenced the recent \u201cTrue Promise II\u201d operation, an Iranian missile strike in retaliation for Israeli aggression, describing Israel\u2019s response as disproportionately weak.\u00a0<\/p>\n
He remarked, \u201cIsrael\u2019s defense capabilities were overstated, and their inadequate response has caused frustration among their own ranks.\u201d When asked if Iran was preparing for a possible True Promise III, Kharrazi replied that Iran would respond decisively when necessary.\u00a0<\/p>\n
He added, \u201cIsrael has made repeated miscalculations, including its belief that it could eradicate Resistance movements like Hamas and Hezbollah through military actions and assassinations of their leaders.\u201d<\/p>\n
Kharrazi further elaborated on Iran\u2019s approach to deterrence, noting that Iran stands prepared for war, though it seeks to avoid escalation. He stated that Iran\u2019s recent responses to Israeli provocations have effectively demonstrated its deterrence capabilities. \u201cThe path forward depends on Israel; if it continues its aggressive actions, Iran will respond accordingly,\u201d Kharrazi warned.<\/p>\n
Kharrazi also discussed Iran\u2019s position on the Gaza ceasefire talks, clarifying that while Iran supports Palestinian interests, it is not directly involved in ceasefire negotiations. \u201cThe decision lies with the Lebanese and Palestinian people, and Iran will support their choices,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n
Concluding the interview, Kharrazi spoke about Iran\u2019s regional approach, reiterating Tehran\u2019s strategic intent to build and strengthen relationships with neighboring states.\u00a0<\/p>\n
He underscored Iran\u2019s policy of maintaining constructive ties across the region to enhance collective security. \u201cIran\u2019s goal is to pursue peace and security through collaboration with all neighboring countries, and we are committed to this course,\u201d he said, signaling Iran\u2019s intention to remain a stabilizing influence amidst rising tensions in West Asia.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
