TEHRAN- Israel\u2019s failure to meet its objectives during the genocidal war on the Gaza Strip has widened rifts among Israeli officials, the media corps and the regime\u2019s supporters.<\/p>\n
Since launching war on Gaza on October 7, 2023, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has repeatedly vowed to perpetuate the conflict until achieving \u201ctotal victory\u201d over Hamas by \u201cdestroying\u201d the resistance group.\u00a0<\/p>\n
More than a year into the onslaught, Israel has not succeeded in eliminating Hamas.\u00a0<\/p>\n
In June, the Israeli military spokesman challenged\u00a0Netanyahu\u2019s claim of defeating Hamas.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThe idea that it is possible to destroy Hamas, to make Hamas vanish \u2014 that is throwing sand in the eyes of the public,\u201d Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari told Israel\u2019s Channel 13.\u00a0<\/p>\n
In August, war minister Yoav Gallant also dismissed Netanyahu\u2019s \u201ctotal victory\u201d slogan as \u201cgibberish\u201d. \u00a0<\/p>\n
The US intelligence community and the Israeli army\u2019s intelligence have also acknowledged Netanyahu\u2019s inability to defeat Hamas.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Growing divisions among Israelis were highlighted in the wake of a conference held in the British capital on October 27. \u00a0<\/p>\n
The London conference titled \u201cIsrael After October 7th: Allied or Alone?\u201d was sponsored by\u00a0Israel’s newspaper Haaretz.<\/p>\n
The event featured speakers from across Israeli and UK politics, academia and media.<\/p>\n
Haaretz\u2019s publisher, Amos Schocken, came down hard on Netanyahu and his cabinet as he opened the event.<\/p>\n
Schocken accused the Netanyahu cabinet of \u201cimposing a cruel apartheid regime\u201d on the Palestinian Arab population and called for imposing sanctions on Israeli leaders.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Israelis and the regime\u2019s Western allies are deeply concerned that Netanya\u2019s military failures will jeopardize the regime\u2019s survival.\u00a0<\/strong><\/cite>He said the Israeli military action \u201cin the occupied territories and in part of Gaza is a second Nakba.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n The\u00a0Nakba, or catastrophe, refers to the\u00a0ethnic cleansing of Palestine\u00a0and the near-total destruction of Palestinian society in 1948.<\/p>\n Haaretz like other Israeli and Western media do not care a whit about the lives of Palestinians. Israel has killed more than 43,300 people in Gaza since October last year under the pretext of hitting positions of the Hamas resistance group.\u00a0<\/p>\n Schocken\u2019s criticism of Netanyahu arises from concerns that his warmongering may jeopardize Israel’s survival.<\/p>\n The premier has been accused of prolonging the war to keep himself in power and turning a blind eye to the interests of the Zionist entity.\u00a0 Divisions regarding Israel\u2019s unsuccessful military operations in Gaza were further highlighted amid comments made by some other speakers.\u00a0<\/p>\n Speaking at the conference, former Israeli prime minister Ehud Olmert said the Gaza war should have ended months ago.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cIsrael should pull out completely from Gaza and embark immediately on negotiations\u2026 for a two-state solution,\u201d Olmert said.\u00a0<\/p>\n Elsewhere, Arab Israeli Knesset member Ayman Odeh, of the Hadash-Taal Party, demanded that the UK \u201cend all military, financial and diplomatic support\u201d to Israel.\u00a0<\/p>\n British Labour lawmaker Hamish Falconer, Minister for the Middle East and North Africa, defended withholding arms export licenses to Israel.<\/p>\n Mick Davis, a former Conservative Party chief executive and leader of the Jewish Leadership Council, also said \u201cIsrael\u2019s existential threat is entirely internal and not external,\u201d The Guardian reported.\u00a0<\/p>\n Some other speakers lashed out at Netanyahu\u2019s far-right ministers, namely National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich.<\/p>\n Such critical remarks reflect deep concerns regarding the existential threat facing Israel. \u00a0<\/p>\n Israel is sinking deeper and deeper into the quagmire of the Gaza war. The regime\u2019s international isolation is also growing day by day in the wake of its atrocities in Gaza which have now expanded to Lebanon.\u00a0<\/p>\n Israel\u2019s war on Gaza followed a surprise military operation carried out by Hamas on October 7 last year. \u00a0The attack, which shattered the image of Israel\u2019s invincibility, is dubbed Operation Al-Aqsa Storm.\u00a0<\/p>\n Currently, the London conference highlights the\u00a0West\u2019s concerns that a new offensive similar to Operation Al-Aqsa Storm may lead to the downfall of the Israeli apartheid regime.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
Schocken\u2019s speech angered the Israeli cabinet. The regime\u2019s Interior Ministry said on October 31 that \u201cuntil further notice,\u201d all \u201cpublication and collaborations\u201d with\u00a0Haaretz\u00a0would be canceled following his \u201canti-Israel\u201d comments. \u00a0Some other ministries followed suit.\u00a0<\/p>\n
