TEHRAN \u2013 A senior Iranian official has cautioned that any effort by the incoming administration of U.S. President Donald Trump to revive Washington\u2019s \u201cmaximum pressure\u201d campaign against Iran will be met with \u201cmaximum resistance\u201d from Tehran. \u00a0<\/p>\n
Majid Takht Ravanchi reiterated Iran’s willingness to negotiate with the incoming administration of Donald Trump, cautioning that any renewed attempts at \u201cmaximum pressure\u201d on Iran would not yield favorable results.\u00a0<\/p>\n
He referenced the 2015 nuclear agreement with Western nations, from which Trump later withdrew, asserting that this accord could still serve as a viable framework that can be revised to accommodate current circumstances.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Iranian diplomat highlighted that the previous strategy of maximum pressure from past U.S. governments was ineffective and that diplomacy is essential for resolving issues.<\/p>\n
Takht Ravanchi remarked that the Trump administration had previously asserted it would bring Iran to the negotiating table during its first term, yet it did not succeed.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Iran\u2019s deputy foreign minister emphasized that it would be illogical for them to pursue the same maximum-pressure strategy for another four years, only to face the same failure.\u00a0<\/p>\n
During Trump’s first term, following the withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) established in 2015, he sparked a nuclear standoff with Iran and implemented sweeping sanctions, especially aimed at Tehran’s oil exports as part of his maximum pressure strategy.
